How diamonds are valued
The four Cs, and what else we consider
Carat weight
The physical weight of the stone, measured in carats (0.2g per carat). Larger stones command a significant premium per carat.
Colour grade
From D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). Colourless stones are the rarest and most valuable. Fancy coloured diamonds are assessed separately.
Clarity grade
From FL (flawless) to I3 (included). We examine each stone under loupe and microscope to assess inclusions accurately.
Cut quality
A well-cut stone reflects light brilliantly and is worth more than a poorly cut stone of the same weight and colour.

Selling diamonds: your questions answered
Do I need a GIA certificate?
A certificate helps confirm the stone's grading and can increase the offer, but it is not required. We assess unmounted stones directly and base our offer on our own evaluation.
How are diamonds valued?
Diamonds are assessed on the four Cs (carat weight, colour, clarity and cut), together with current wholesale market demand. We research comparable stones before making any offer.
Can I sell a diamond that's still in its setting?
Yes. We can assess the stone in its setting or have our bench jeweller remove it. The gold or platinum mount is valued separately.
What if I have multiple stones?
Collections are welcome. Each stone is assessed individually and you receive a full itemised offer. For large collections, please contact us before sending.
