Terms & Conditions.

Last updated: 1 May 2025

Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using the British Gold Exchange postal buying service. By requesting a free pack or sending items to us, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.

1. About us

British Gold Exchange ("we", "us", "our") is a precious metals and luxury goods buying service registered in B.V.I. Our registered office is in London. We operate a postal service allowing customers in the United Kingdom to send gold, silver, jewellery and other items to us for valuation and purchase.

2. Eligibility

To use our service you must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United Kingdom. By submitting a request or sending items, you confirm that you are the legal owner of all items submitted and that you have the right to sell them. We are required by law to verify your identity before completing any purchase.

3. Requesting a free pack

When you request a free pack, you provide us with your name and postal address so we can dispatch a prepaid, fully insured postal pack. Requesting a pack does not create any obligation on your part to send items to us or to accept any offer we make. Packs are dispatched within one working day and sent via Royal Mail First Class post.

4. Sending your items

  • Postage: Items must be sent using the prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery label provided in your pack. Do not send items by any other method — we cannot accept liability for items sent without our prepaid label.
  • Insurance: Every consignment sent via our prepaid label is insured up to £2,500 by Royal Mail. For consignments of greater value, please call us before posting so we can arrange additional insurance at no cost to you.
  • Packaging: You are responsible for packaging your items securely before placing them in the provided envelope. We recommend using bubble wrap or tissue paper for fragile or loose items.
  • Prohibited items: Do not send counterfeit goods, stolen goods, hazardous materials or anything not listed on our accepted items list. We reserve the right to report suspicious items to the relevant authorities.

5. Valuation and offers

Upon receipt, we will assess and weigh each item. All precious metals are tested using XRF analysis and/or acid testing to confirm purity. Our offer is based on the live gold or silver spot price at the time of valuation, the confirmed purity and weight of your items, and prevailing market conditions for non-metal items such as diamonds, gemstones and watches.

We will present our offer to you by email and/or telephone within 24 hours of receiving your items. All prices quoted are in pounds sterling (GBP) and are inclusive of any testing costs. We do not charge any fees for valuation, posting or return.

6. Acceptance and payment

You are under no obligation to accept our offer. If you accept, you must confirm acceptance by responding to our offer email or by telephone. Upon acceptance, we will process payment by bank transfer to your nominated UK bank account. Payment is processed the same working day for acceptances received before 2pm, or on the next working day for acceptances received after 2pm.

Once you have accepted an offer, the transaction is complete and title to the items passes to British Gold Exchange. We cannot reverse a completed transaction.

7. Return of items

If you do not wish to accept our offer, please notify us by email or telephone within 14 calendar days of the offer being made. We will return your items by Royal Mail Special Delivery within two working days at no cost to you. Items will be returned to the address from which they were originally sent.

We cannot be held responsible for delays caused by Royal Mail or other factors outside our control. If you do not respond to our offer within 14 days, we will attempt to contact you. After 30 days of no response, we reserve the right to treat the transaction as completed at the offered price.

8. Anti-money laundering

We are required by law to comply with the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017. We may be required to request proof of identity and proof of ownership for certain transactions. We are also required to report any suspicious activity to the National Crime Agency. We cannot complete purchases that do not meet our due diligence requirements.

9. Limitation of liability

Our liability for loss of or damage to your items while in our possession is limited to the value of the offer made or, where no offer has been made, to the market value of the items at the time of loss. For items sent via our prepaid Royal Mail label, our liability while in transit is limited to the Royal Mail Special Delivery insurance maximum of £2,500 unless additional cover has been arranged.

We accept no liability for any consequential, indirect or special loss. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

10. Complaints

If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please or call 0800 014 8323. We will acknowledge your complaint within two working days and aim to resolve it within 14 working days.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of the British Virgin Islands. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of our service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the British Virgin Islands.

12. Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. Changes will be published on this page with an updated date. Continued use of our service following any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
