Common questions
How can I tell if my silver is sterling or plated?
Look for hallmarks. Sterling silver in the UK is stamped '925' or 'Ster', or carries a lion passant hallmark. If there is no mark, please don't worry. We test every item with XRF and tell you exactly what you have. We do not buy plated items, and return any we find free of charge.
What about antique silverware — is it worth more?
The precious metal content drives our offer. However, some antique pieces have collector value above their melt value. If you have potentially collectible pieces, mention them and we'll advise.
Do I need to polish the silver before sending?
No. Send everything as it is. Tarnish and patina have no effect on the silver content, so polishing makes no difference to our assay.
Can I send a mixture of silver and non-silver items?
Yes. We test every item separately and will clearly tell you which items contain silver and which don't. You only receive an offer on items with genuine silver content.
