The short answer
Whether you are selling a single gold ring or a complete collection of coins, silverware and watches, the process at British Gold Exchange is the same: request a free pack, send your items, receive a firm offer within 24 hours, and get paid the same day you accept.
What changes is how we assess value. Gold and silver are tested with an XRF analyser, which gives us laboratory-grade purity readings without damaging the piece. Coins are assessed against their metal content and — where relevant — their numismatic value. Watches are assessed against live secondary market data from platforms including Chrono24 and WatchCharts, adjusted for condition, papers and provenance.
You do not need to sort, label, clean or categorise your items before sending. Our specialists handle the identification and assessment of every piece. If something turns out to be silver-plated rather than sterling, or gold-filled rather than solid gold, we'll explain this clearly in the offer letter.
What affects it
How it works
Request Your Free Pack
We post a fully insured, tracked Royal Mail freepost envelope suitable for jewellery, coins and small items. Bulky lots — watches and silverware — are collected by courier on our account.
Send Your Items
Use our supplied packaging and post your items. They are covered by our insurance from the moment you drop them at the post office.
Receive Your Offer
A firm, itemised offer arrives within 24 hours. Every piece is weighed, XRF-tested for purity, and — for watches — assessed against live secondary market data.
Get Paid
Accept and receive a same-day bank transfer. Decline and we return every item free of charge — no questions asked.
Common questions
What if I don't know what I have?
Send it anyway. Our specialists identify and assess everything — carat, purity, coin type, watch model. You'll receive a full written breakdown in your offer letter.
Can I send items of different types together?
Yes. Gold, silver, coins and watches can all be sent in the same pack. Each is assessed separately and the offer is fully itemised by item.
What happens to items that have no value?
Silver-plated items, base metal pieces and any items with no precious metal content are returned to you at no cost. We never charge for an assessment.
How long does the whole process take?
From requesting a pack to receiving payment typically takes 5–7 working days: 1–2 days for the pack to arrive, 1–2 days to reach us, 1 day for assessment and offer, same-day payment on acceptance.
Is there a minimum value or weight?
No minimum. We accept single items from a 9ct ring upwards. For very large lots (estate collections, business liquidations), contact us for a managed collection service.
