The short answer

Same-day bank transfer once you accept — no intermediaries

When you accept your offer, we make a single bank transfer to the account details you provide. There are no cheques, no PayPal, no delayed clearing periods and no deductions from the agreed figure. The amount in your offer letter is the amount that arrives in your account.

Accept before 2pm on a working day and payment is made the same day — typically within 2 hours of acceptance. Accept after 2pm and payment arrives the following working morning. We will confirm the payment reference by email.

We do not pay in cash. Bank transfer is the only payment method we use. This is a requirement of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, which prohibits cash payments for scrap metal to protect both sellers and buyers from fraud.

What affects it

Everything you need to know about payment

Payment methodBank transfer (Faster Payments) only. No cash, no cheque, no PayPal. This is a legal requirement under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 and protects you as the seller.
Same-day cut-offAccept before 2pm on a working day for same-day transfer. After 2pm, payment arrives the next working morning. Weekends and bank holidays are excluded from processing.
Amount receivedThe full amount stated in your offer letter. No admin fees, no processing deductions, no 'handling charges'. The figure you see is the figure you receive.
Your bank detailsYou provide your sort code and account number when you accept. We confirm these back to you before processing. We do not store payment details beyond the transaction.
Payment referenceYou receive an email confirmation with the payment reference number. Use this to track the transfer in your online banking if funds have not arrived within 3 hours.
Joint accountsIf the bank account is held jointly, that is fine. We require the account holder to be you (the seller) or a named joint holder. Business accounts are also accepted.
Large amountsFor amounts above £10,000, Faster Payments processes in the same timeframe but your bank may ask you to confirm the incoming payment is expected. This is routine due to anti-fraud protocols.
ID requirementsFor higher-value transactions, we may request a copy of your photo ID and proof of address before processing payment. This is required by anti-money-laundering regulations.

Common questions

Questions we hear most

How long does the bank transfer take to arrive?

Faster Payments typically arrive within 2 hours of being sent, often within minutes. If you haven't received payment within 3 hours of our confirmation email, contact us with your payment reference.

Can I be paid into a different name's account?

The account must be in your name or jointly held in your name. We cannot transfer to a third-party account as this conflicts with our anti-money-laundering obligations.

What if I don't have a UK bank account?

Contact us before sending your items. We can discuss international wire transfer arrangements for overseas sellers, which may take 2–3 working days rather than same-day.

Is there a minimum payment amount?

No. We pay for items of any value, including small single pieces. There is no minimum transaction size.

Do I get a receipt or invoice for my records?

Yes. You receive a written offer letter (which serves as documentation of the transaction) and a payment confirmation email. These are suitable for personal tax records or probate purposes.

What if I made an error in my bank details?

Contact us immediately if you believe you entered incorrect bank details. If the transfer has not yet been sent, we can correct it. If it has been sent to an incorrect but valid account, bank recovery processes apply — which is why we confirm details before processing.
